Job Description

Alberta Helping Animals Society (AHAS) supports the human-animal bond between vulnerable people in and around Edmonton and their companion animals.  AHAS also fundraises to support AHAS Home Veterinary Services, providing veterinary care to our clients.  Reporting to the Vice President of Alberta Helping Animals Society, the Community Coordinator will be the first point of contact for AHAS and AHAS Home Veterinary Services clients and the wider community.  This is a part-time (20 hours a week) part-time position.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Respond to requests that come through phone, text, email, and social media
  • Direct requests to appropriate resources as necessary
  • Verify client eligibility for AHAS Home Veterinary Services
  • Schedule AHAS Home Veterinary Services appointments
  • Complete client information records
  • Complete client and animal information on medical records
  • Enter client and animal information into computer database
  • Coordinate volunteers
  • Schedule food pick-up and delivery to the Inner City Pet Food Bank
  • Perform administrative tasks related to AHAS
  • Assist the Board in event planning, fundraising, and community out-reach events

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a high school diploma (Animal health technology diploma or relevant university degree preferred)
  • Experience in non-profit and/or veterinary field preferred
  • Excellent client communication skills
  • Sensitivity to the particular circumstances of vulnerable people
  • Ability to work collaborative with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong attention to detail organization, and record-keeping skills
  • Self-confidence and a positive attitude towards work
