The Veterinary Medical Assistant assists the veterinarian and technologist with appointments, surgeries, animal care, and cleaning. This is a full-time, Monday – Friday daytime hours position.
This job generally requires the ability to do the following work:
- Restrain animals for examinations, diagnostics, x-ray, and sedation.
- Lift, with assistance, 30 kg.
- Provide surgery and surgical equipment sanitation and care.
- Keep operative records.
- Scrub, wrap, and autoclave instruments.
- Clean, maintain, and restock examination room, treatment room, and surgical equipment and supplies.
- Clean and maintain veterinary equipment.
- Maintain basic cleanliness and orderliness of the facility.
- Assist veterinarians and veterinary technologists with cleaning of kennels, and any other needed support.
- Accompany veterinarians or veterinary technologists on home visits when necessary.
Qualifications
- Veterinary Medical Assistant/Veterinary Technical Assistant certificate is an asset
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in an animal or veterinary field (could be as a volunteer)
