Veterinary Medical Assistant

The Veterinary Medical Assistant assists the veterinarian and technologist with appointments, surgeries, animal care, and cleaning. This is a full-time, Monday – Friday daytime hours position.

This job generally requires the ability to do the following work:

  • Restrain animals for examinations, diagnostics, x-ray, and sedation. 
  • Lift, with assistance, 30 kg.
  • Provide surgery and surgical equipment sanitation and care.
  • Keep operative records. 
  • Scrub, wrap, and autoclave instruments.
  • Clean, maintain, and restock examination room, treatment room, and surgical equipment and supplies.
  • Clean and maintain veterinary equipment.
  • Maintain basic cleanliness and orderliness of the facility.
  • Assist veterinarians and veterinary technologists with cleaning of kennels, and any other needed support. 
  • Accompany veterinarians or veterinary technologists on home visits when necessary.

 

Qualifications

  • Veterinary Medical Assistant/Veterinary Technical Assistant certificate is an asset
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in an animal or veterinary field (could be as a volunteer)
